Dear Members,
Our ship repair association year is coming to a close. In October we will hold elections for board positions. There will be information coming out soon about both the nominating process and the election itself so please be on the lookout for that. It has been an honor serving as the association president this year and I appreciate the continued great support and participation of our members. As we continue to engage with the Navy and work with our elected representatives on the issues important to our industry it is extremely important to have a large and diverse membership base for our organization.
We are posting two documents to our web site from the Fleet Maintenance and Modernization Symposium that you may find useful. They were the topics of the Industry Day held at the end of FMMS in Virginia Beach last week (9/9/14 9/11/14). The two briefs cover changes to NAVSEA standard items and will affect the way work is done on our next major availability, the USS NIMITZ FY15 PIA. The 8010 Manual changes are the implementation in standard items of the requirements developed after the USS MIAMI fire in Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. The other brief concerns requirements to integrate schedules. I hope you find these informative.
Finally, the association board is considering ways that we can improve service and value to our membership. To that end we will be sending out a survey in the next week or two asking if you are interested in the ship repair association offering training for your employees. Examples would be OSHA 10 and SCP training. Please take some time respond to this survey as we need to get a good idea of how much demand there is for this type of service.
Please mark your calendars for the October meeting (10/21) and remember that will be the board election. Our planned guest speaker will be the new deputy commander for regional maintenance, Captain Bruce Farman. I hope to see you there!
